Required Entrance Counseling

All students receiving a Direct Loan for the first time are required to complete the Direct Loan Entrance Counseling. Graduate students who are borrowing Direct Loans for the first time must also complete a new Graduate Entrance Counseling. Students will use their FSA log-in to complete the entrance counseling. 


Master Promissory Notes

Students, and parents receiving the Direct Parent PLUS Loan, are required to complete a master promissory note explaining the rights and responsibilities of receiving a Direct Loan. The master promissory notes are valid for up to 10 years. 


Loan Consolidation...May Lead to Lower Payments! 

Students who have multiple Direct Loans from different schools, or between undergraduate and graduate studies, may want to consider consolidation. Often times consolidating the Direct Loans can assist students in making only one payment. Be sure to read about your options carefully, as consolidation may not be the best for everyone. 


Withdrawing or Graduating from the University?

Students who received any Direct Loan, or TEACH Grant funds, while enrolled at Fort Valley State University, are required to complete the necessary exit counseling. Students may have their diplomas held is exit counseling is not complete.

How Much Have I Borrowed?

The U.S. Department of Education keeps a record of how much a student has borrowed in federal Direct Loan funds, FFELP funds, and the amount federal Pell Grants received. Students are encourage to log into their Federal Student Aid accounts often to view this infromation.
