Fort Valley State University celebrated a significant milestone with the groundbreaking of a new residential facility at the Gano Site. The event featured remarks from Student Government Association President Laila Humphries, Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Timothy Hatchett, Ph.D., and President Paul A. Jones, Ph.D., emphasizing the importance of this addition to campus. Partners in this project, Piedmont Construction and Townsend Turner Heery, also expressed their excitement to be a part of the growth for the FVSU community. Scholar Jonah Ball gave the invocation.

SGA President Humphries highlighted how the new housing facility would enhance the student experience by providing high quality accommodations, allowing students to focus on their education and future success. She expressed gratitude to university leadership, builders, and supporters for their dedication to student success.

VP Hatchett expressed our commitment to an exceptional student experience and how the new facility meets the need of our growing population. He shared how the university has experienced consecutive years of record enrollment.

President Jones reflected on FVSU’s 130-year legacy of unapologetic excellence and the university’s commitment to growth. He noted that this new 32-bed, apartment-style facility would support students, particularly those in health-related fields, and recognized Lawanda Greene, Ph.D., for her contributions to the nursing program. Jones also acknowledged the construction partners and university staff for their efforts in making the project a reality.

This groundbreaking marks the first phase of a larger development plan, with the goal of completing the entire project by 2026. The initiative reflects FVSU’s ongoing commitment to enhancing campus life and fostering student success.
