Kasyana Bouie: The Vibe Graduates from FVSU
Posted on Dec 04, 2025 at 10:08 AM

Kasyana “Kasy” Cymoñ Bouie knew Fort Valley State University felt different the moment she set foot on campus. Coming from Atlanta, she first found FVSU because she planned to major in veterinary technology (vet tech) but was torn between two universities.
Touring the campus twice, once with her high school, she found exactly what she was looking for. It was the campus’s vibe that made her commit.
Raised by her single mother, Kenya, affording college was always a concern. With the help of the HOPE Scholarship, the Mayoral Scholarship, support from the Southern Crescent Alumni Chapter and a Parent PLUS loan, college became a reality.
Kasy arrived at FVSU during the fall of 2020 as a Vet Tech major, during the height of COVID-19. Her first semester proved to be more challenging than expected. While carrying the emotional weight of the pandemic, including the loss of close family members, like her uncle, she earned her first F, and her GPA dropped. She struggled with depression and lost sight of what was important.
However, even in the midst of chaos, she had people who helped her reset. Financial support from the FVSU Southern Crescent Alumni Chapter continued, and her mentor, Shelisha Williams, stepped in at the right time to help her get back on track. Over a school break, Kasy regrouped and came back determined to rebuild, and somewhere in that process, she realized that vet tech was no longer the career she wanted.
Her sophomore year changed the entire trajectory of her life. Joining the Office of Marketing and Communication’s Marketing and Media Agency and working with Britney Smith, DJ Pearson, and Jazmin Thomas-Pullen, introduced her to marketing, content creation, graphic design and storytelling. Through social media posts, videos and creative projects, she discovered a passion she didn’t know she had. At the Student Engagement and Achievement Center, she not only created engaging content, but also served as a peer advisor, helping students adjust to college life and get their schedules in order. Marketing was not just a switch in majors; it was a spark that turned into a purpose.
Once she found her lane, she flourished. Bouie became one of the most recognizable faces on campus. Not just because of her involvement, but because of her presence.
She hosted everything from university events to pep rallies to academic programs, bringing an energy that people gravitated toward. Everyone knew: ‘Kasy is the vibe.’ She’s the one making people laugh, lifting the mood and turning any room into the place to be.
She jumped headfirst into campus life, becoming a New Student Orientation leader and later a team lead. She served as vice president of the Campus Activities Board. She became a Golden Student Ambassador, joined the Atlanta Metro Scholar Association, and worked with Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity (URGE). She served as a Knack tutor for composition and public speaking classes, and in Spring 2024, she experienced one of her proudest accomplishments. Bouie crossed into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated on a historic line of 62.
A moment that touched Bouie most was being found by a student who said she was the reason he chose FVSU after giving him a tour as a prospective student. It was a full-circle moment that reminded her of the same warmth and belonging she felt during her first campus tours.
Her favorite memory at FVSU will always be Homecoming 2024, when Delta Sigma Theta won the step show with their “Us” movie-themed performance. The campus energy was electric that night and when she thinks about what she will miss most after graduation, it is not the buildings or the routines; it is the people. She will miss hosting events, teaching the FVSU 100 class, and being part of a community where she could be fully and unapologetically herself.
Through it all, her biggest inspiration has been her little sister, Sylence. With a six-year age gap between them, Bouie is always conscious of the example she sets. “Even the smallest things,” she says, “I know she sees them. So, I always think about her.”
After graduation, Bouie plans to secure an internship with the NBA and build a career in marketing for professional sports teams. She feels more than ready to chase the life she wants.
Now, as Fall 2025 approaches and graduation draws near, there is something special in the air. Something that feels like the end of an era but the beginning of something powerful. Something only people who really know her can put into words.
The vibe is that she is graduating from FVSU and she is taking everything “the Valley” gave her into the future.
