University DirectoryAttorney Sonya Williams is the Title IX investigator and student conduct specialist at Fort Valley State University. In this role, Ms. Williams investigates matters that fall within the scope of Title IX as well as matters involving student misconduct. Ms. Williams also assists with other investigations, open records requests, and various legal/compliance duties. Ms. Williams is also a member of the Sexual Assault and Misconduct Task Force, having been appointed by FVSU President Paul Jones. Prior to coming to Fort Valley State University, Ms. Williams worked as a senior staff attorney for over ten years at a state government agency. Ms. Williams has also worked in various compliance positions with private companies throughout her career.
Ms. Williams is a “double bear” having earned both her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Mercer University and her Juris Doctor degree from Mercer University School of Law. Ms. Williams is a member of Delta Sigma Pi Professional Business Fraternity, serves as an advisory board member for I am King Foundation, Inc., and is a member of her local chamber of commerce.
Ms. Williams is an active member of her church, serving on the Hospitality Ministry and as an announcer for the Encouraging News Ministry. In her spare time, Ms. Williams enjoys spending time with family and friends.
