Fort Valley State University is offering two new online programs designed to help people advance their careers as a professional school counselor.
The MSEd School Counselor Education online launched this summer. The next cohort will be able to begin next summer 2021. The Ed.S. with a major in School Counselor Education will be offered online during fall 2020, said Dr. T. Ramon Stuart, FVSU provost and vice president of Academic Affairs.
The new flexible online offerings are especially designed to meet the needs of adult or nontraditional students.
"We are taking great strides in meeting the needs of the 21st Century students," Stuart said. "These courses will be as rigorous as our in-person learning classes, but with the flexibility needed for adult learners."
Graduates with an MSEd degree can be employed as a school counselor. Requirements for admission include:
- Completed graduate application and processing fee ($20 nonrefundable)
- Two copies of official graduate and undergraduate G.P.A. of at least 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale
- Three letters of recommendation
- A personal or professional statement
- A resumé
- Membership in a professional education organization
- Submission of a standardized test score (GRE, MAT, or other) is strongly recommended and may be an important consideration but is not required by Graduate Studies.
