President Paul Jones Dr. Paul Jones "It's not enough for FVSU students to simply be able to compete for employment in their chosen field," said Dr. Paul Jones, FVSU president. "We are intensely serious about producing students who will go forward into the world as change agents, creators, entrepreneurs, researchers, and inventors who will lead the transformation of society as we know it. FVSU is a place where innovation is celebrated and genius is discovered every day, and our Global Innovators will set the pace as peer leaders for the other talented students who will study with them. These students will help ensure that the state of Georgia and country as a whole develop a pool of forward-thinking leaders who can create jobs, expand human understanding and higher living standards." Students will be paired with a faculty mentor who will help guide them through enhanced academic and co-curricular opportunities. The Global Innovators Scholarship Program is open to first-time freshmen who graduate high school with a 3.5 grade point average and a combined SAT score of 1100 or an ACT score of 22. Selected students will also demonstrate leadership, their creativity in developing unique ideas in academics, research, or organizational participation, and civic engagement. The selection process will also include an on-campus interview with FVSU faculty. The deadline to register for the competition is February 2, 2018. To be eligible, students must also complete an application for admission to FVSU and submit all required documents. The Global Innovators Scholarship is part of FVSU's leadership in the evolving landscape of collegiate education. According to national studies, 72% of students say colleges should allow them to design their own degree programs, and 63% want colleges to offer courses in founding a business. At the same time, 60% of employers do not believe recent college graduates have adequate critical thinking and problem solving skills. This program will help students customize parts of their study at FVSU based on their own interests, while at the same time preparing them to think globally, adapt to new perspectives, and find new solutions to tough challenges.** The program is designed to develop inquisitive, culturally adaptable students who create change. It will help students understand methods for conducting meaningful and thoughtful research into an idea or opportunity, move ideas to meaningful action, and create new approaches to problem-solving. At the same time, students will develop a greater understanding of globalism by living, learning, and working with people in other countries.

* Scholarship distributions of up to $40,000 are awarded based on a student's unmet need.
**A 2014 Northeastern University "Innovation Imperative" study found that 72% of students say colleges should allow them to design their own degree programs, and 63% want colleges to offer courses in founding a business.
