FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY RECEIVES $50,000 INSTALLMENT OF $100,000 PLEDGE FROM ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INC.

(Fort Valley, GA)"” Fort Valley State University (FVSU) today received $50,000 from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the first installment of a $100,000 pledge to the university from the organization, known as the first major African-American sorority established by college women. The 300,000-member sorority selected FVSU and 31 other historically black colleges and universities to receive funding from their AKA-HBCU Endowment Fund. FVSU President Paul Jones joined Alpha Kappa Alpha International President Glenda Glover and presidents from other institutions today at the organization's headquarters in Chicago, Illinois for a check presentation.

"Alpha Kappa Alpha's investment in our students is a testament to the crucial role of HBCUs like Fort Valley State University in producing the competent and innovative students who are the future of the global workforce," said Dr. Jones. "This gift will allow us to provide a high-quality education to more high-performing students who just need some financial help in order to make their academic dreams a reality. They are willing to do the hard work, and through gifts like this, we are able to provide the support they deserve."

Fort Valley State University will use the Alpha Kappa Alpha donation for scholarships. The AKA-HBCU Endowment is a $10 million initiative to provide financial support to historically black colleges and universities. Today's gift is one of several recent demonstrations of support from the organization for FVSU. Alumni of FVSU's Alpha Beta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, one of the oldest chapters in the organization, recently presented the university with a check for $75,000 to mark their 75th chapter anniversary.

"This is our way of boldly announcing to the world that Alpha Kappa Alpha is answering the call to action with a resounding charge of "˜HBCU for life,'" said Dr. Glenda Glover, international president of Alpha Kappa Alpha. "Our fabric is deeply interwoven into the history of HBCUs. Through unity, sustainability, and dedication to student success, we have carved out our path to a greater tomorrow."
