Twiggs County residents seeking information about affordable burial plans, health care and life insurance recently gathered at the Twiggs Senior Center in Jeffersonville.
From 6:00-7:30 p.m., townspeople participated in the Let’s Talk Insurance Seminar sponsored by Fort Valley State University’s Cooperative Extension Program.
“The purpose of the workshop is to educate our community on the importance of some type of insurance and stop depending on ‘Go Fund Me’ accounts,” said Terralon Chaney, Fort Valley State University Extension agent for Twiggs County. She said people should not make excuses or avoid discussing insurance policies and not depend on others to cover funeral costs.
Chaney said the average funeral cost $7,000-$9,000. It is important that people learn about different types of insurance policies such as term life insurance and the processes to obtain them.
Representatives from several organizations including FVSU Cooperative Extension Program, Allstate Insurance, Middle Georgia Community Action Agency, Paschal Funeral Homes, United Healthcare and Reece Funeral Homes. Some of the topics covered included seeking affordable prescription drugs and cost effective funeral arrangements.
“Insurance is very important if you want to be buried,” said Randy Paschal, owner and operator of Paschal Funeral Homes in Jeffersonville. He said insurance is needed to replace an income, cover funeral and other expenses as well as pay off debts of the deceased.
