Hancock Named Interim Assistant Vice President for Online Learning and Faculty Affairs

Fort Valley State University recently announced the appointment of Dr. Darryl Hancock as Interim Assistant Vice President for Online Learning and Faculty Affairs. In an internal memo from Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Olufunke Fontenot, it was announced Dr. Hancock's new role will include promoting quality instruction and faculty professional development opportunities as well as managing all faculty personnel processes and procedures. His appointment was effective October 1, 2021.
Dr. Darryl Hancock is a native of Middle Georgia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Florida State University and a Master of Arts in Music Education from the University of South Florida (USF). In addition, he earned the Educational Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in Instructional Design, from USF and a Doctor of Education in Education Administration from Georgia Southern University. He is certified in Quality Matters, Brightspace/D2L, and has 20 years of experience in web design and multimedia development. He has delivered workshops throughout the University System of Georgia and in Florida, California, and Wisconsin.
Before joining FVSU, Dr. Hancock taught for 12 years in the Hillsborough Public Schools in Tampa, Florida. In addition, he served at Middle Georgia College/State University as an instructional designer and Director of Distance Learning for 15 years and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning for three years. He established the center and was responsible for faculty development on multiple campuses and through multiple formats during this time. Workshops included topics on traditional, hybrid, and online instruction methods, course design and development, the production and incorporation of media in the classroom, copyright law and the TEACH Act, library resources, Reacting to the Past, ethics, and promotion and tenure portfolio preparation.
Dr. Hancock has been the Director of Online Learning at FVSU for more than two years. He has conducted training in online course development, overseen the addition of over 30 fully online courses, and added five undergraduate and two graduate programs to the list of FVSU online programs. In addition to his online learning duties, he contributed to the Southern Company Grant and is currently coordinating the Faculty iPad Project.
