Legal Affairs
Legal Affairs serves as the university’s in-house legal counsel. The attorneys provide legal advice and services to University administrators, faculty, and staff in the performance of their official duties. The attorneys assist with open records requests, compliance-related university training, employee and student grievance processes, and all other areas that have the propensity to bring legal risk to the university. Legal Affairs provides guidance to matters that include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Dispute Resolution
- Transactional legal and insurance related matters
- Legal drafting and interpretation of complex regulations, contracts and policies
- Working with the Attorney General’s Office, Department of Administrative Services and USG Legal staff regarding pending litigation and potential legal concerns
Please note that university counsel does not provide advice regarding any personal legal matters of faculty, staff and students. The state or local bar association(s) can be contacted to provide you with attorney referral(s). Additionally, during Open Enrollment, employees can sign up for Lifestyle Benefits, which includes a legal services option allowing employees to receive legal advice from attorneys affiliated with the plan.
