Fort Valley State University and University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Programs will co-host an estate planning workshop on ZOOM August 1
Fort Valley State University and the University of Georgia’s (UGA) Cooperative Extension Programs will collaborate on a virtual ZOOM workshop focusing on estate planning.
The workshop, “Who Gets the HOME House?” is scheduled for Tuesday, August 1, from noon-1:30 p.m. To participate in the workshop, participants are encouraged to pre-register online by Monday, July 24, at https://bit.ly/GAFITSReg. The Georgia Farmer’s Initiative for Training and Sustainability (GA-FITS) is presenting the event. It will be simulcast on Facebook Live at https://bit.ly/fvsuag-fblive.
John Donsbach, an attorney at Donsbach Law Group LLC, is the featured speaker. Some of the topics for discussion on estate planning include, What is It?; Why do I Need It?; and Heirs Property-Am I at Risk?
Brenda Salter, FVSU Extension agent for Marion County, is one of the workshop’s facilitators. “The overall goals are to increase outreach, awareness and practical assistance to Georgia residents with asset management and estate planning,” she said.
Additionally, the FVSU Extension agent said that GA-FITS participants and the general-public should log on or register for the workshop to receive information on developing an estate plan, how to protect their assets, and avoid heirs’ property. Salter also said those tuning in will learn who needs an estate plan and recommended documentation such as the advance healthcare directive and power of attorney for financial management.
“Participants will also learn how life changes such as marriage, divorce and the birth or the adoption of children may affect an established estate plan,” Salter said.
Other workshop facilitators include UGA Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) agent Keishon Thomas, for Bibb County, and Ida Jackson, UGA FACS agent for Wilkes County.
For more workshop or registration information, contact Ida Jackson at (706) 678-2332 (Ida.Jackson@uga.edu) or Brenda Salter at (478) 235-8695 (maddoxb@fvsu.edu).
