General Counsel and Director of Government Affairs

Karin Vinson, Esq.'10,will serve as general counsel and director of Government Affairs, effective November 18, 2024. With an impressive track record of legal expertise, leadership and deep ties to the FVSU community, Ms. Vinson brings a wealth of experience to her new role.
Ms. Vinson has served as the University’s compliance coordinator, title IX coordinator, contracts, and open records officer, ensuring that FVSU remained compliant with state and federal regulations. In addition, she has been instrumental in managing the University's Title IX and Prohibited Conduct processes, reviewing contracts, and advising on policy matters. Her comprehensive background in the legal field and her ability to navigate complex legal frameworks make her an invaluable asset to the University.
A proud FVSU alumna, Ms. Vinson earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2010, graduating Summa Cum Laude, before obtaining her Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School in Atlanta. Her extensive legal career includes founding her own law firm, The Law Firm of K. D. Vinson & Associates and serving in key roles with the Georgia Public Defenders Council and the City of Fort Valley.
Ms. Vinson stated, "As an alumna of Fort Valley State University, I am sincerely honored to serve as general counsel/director of Government Affairs. Serving in the position will allow me to give back to the university that has helped me and shaped me into the person I am today.”
In her new capacity, Ms. Vinson will oversee all legal affairs at FVSU, providing strategic guidance to ensure compliance with laws and regulations. She will also work closely with government officials to advocate for the University’s interests at the state and federal levels.
