Fort Valley State University Vice President of Advancement and Executive Director of the FVSU Foundation Karen Wright Joins AGB National Council of Foundation Leaders

Fort Valley State University will be represented on the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) National Council of Foundation Leaders through the appointment of Vice President of University Advancement and Executive Director of the FVSU Foundation Karen Wright. The council leverages its members' experience, perspectives and insights with active leadership roles for the development of AGB expertise designed to strengthen board governance across higher education.

AGB is a national organization that supports higher education governing boards, foundation leaders and institutional leadership through governance education, research and thought leadership.

“I am honored to accept AGB’s invitation and welcome the opportunity to serve with such an esteemed group of peers,” Wright stated. “As foundations endeavor to strategically align with institutional priorities, it is essential that we be responsive to challenges, practice exemplary governance and deepen our engagement.”

Wright will serve a three-year term on the council. Her first meeting as a member of the National Council of Foundation Leaders is scheduled for Sept. 22.

Wright accepted the opportunity to serve on the National Council of Foundation Leaders because she is an enthusiastic advocate of AGB’s thought leadership and is committed to sharing her time and talents to making the world a better place. She is deeply engaged in ensuring that all individuals have access to higher education and the opportunity to improve their own lives and those of their families, regardless of their background or circumstances.

The AGB National Council of Foundation Leaders is one of five councils that enhance AGB’s thought leadership. They regularly convene to discuss the strategic priorities across higher education and includes representatives from a range of institutional types, including public and private, large and small, single institution and multi-campus system, two- and four-year, religious and secular, and domestic and international. This diversity affords the group a broad pool of experiences that help inform AGB about the obstacles and macro-level trends that governing boards face. In turn, AGB leverages its advisory groups to create tools and resources that benefit more than 2,000 institutions and 40,000 members.

Wright has served as Vice President for University Advancement and Executive Director of the FVSU Foundation since 2022 and oversees fundraising, alumni engagement and foundation operations. This appointment provides FVSU with a voice in national conversations on higher education governance, philanthropy and foundation leadership.
