The Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Fall 2021 commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 11 at 9:30 a.m. will feature keynote speaker Christopher Womack, chairman, president, and CEO of Georgia Power. The renowned executive leader will deliver the commencement address to graduating students at an in-person ceremony held at the university's Health and Physical Education (HPE) Complex.
Womack, a native of Greenville, Alabama, was named chairman, president, and CEO of Georgia Power in 2021. He leads Georgia Power in serving its 2.6 million customers across the state. The company is the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, one of the nation's leading energy providers. Before joining Southern Company, Womack worked on Capitol Hill for the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC. He served as a legislative aide for former Congressman Leon E. Panetta and as staff director for the Subcommittee on Personnel and Police for the Committee on House Administration.
"We are extremely honored to have such an esteemed business leader join us for this important weekend. We recognize that students and their families look forward to commencement each year. As a university, we are committed to marking the significance of this milestone to include hosting such a prominent speaker while also continuing to incorporate the appropriate safety protocols that will allow attendees to focus on enjoying the celebration," said FVSU President Dr. Paul Jones.
Carefully following public health guidelines, the ceremony will include both undergraduate and graduate students. All graduates participating in the in-person ceremony will receive a limited number of tickets for eight (8) guests to help ensure the ability to maintain social distancing. Masks will be encouraged.
