In March, Fort Valley State University made the difficult, but necessary, decision to postpone its spring 2020 Commencement in support of CDC social distancing guidelines due to COVID-19. While our commencements are deeply honored and highly anticipated events for FVSU, especially for our students and their families, the health and safety of our Wildcat Family must always be our first priority.

Our hope was to allow enough time for the curve to flatten and for it to be deemed safe to hold our traditional on-campus commencement ceremony on August 8^th. However, the passage of time has not been enough to offset the ongoing threat to public safety with the recent surges in the coronavirus in Georgia, we have decided to move our rescheduled on-campus commencement to a virtual commencement ceremony for our 2020 spring and summer graduates.

"We know this may be a disappointment for many of our students," said President Paul Jones. "However, we will still honor the hard work and accomplishments of our graduates with this virtual commencement and it can be safely enjoyed by their families, supporters and our dedicated faculty and staff who have all worked hard and sacrificed for this celebratory milestone."

The virtual commencement, scheduled for August 8^th, will be broadcast on the FVSU website and select social media channels. FVSU graduates will be invited to provide photos and inspirational quotes that will be shared when their names are called. The virtual ceremony is expected to last less than three hours and will include the conferring of degrees. While spring graduates already received their degrees in May, summer graduates will receive their degrees in the mail approximately one week following the end of the summer semester.
